Music for cello by Haskell Small: Suite for Solo Cello

Haskell Small is a is a pianist and composer who lives in Washington D.C. Mr. Small has received numerous awards and commissions, and has been featured in the nationally broadcast television Since 2000, he has been composer-in-residence with the Mount Vernon Orchestra anad he has recorded a number of CDs. He received his musical training at the San Francisco Conservatory and Carnegie-Mellon University, where he studied piano with Leon Fleisher, William Masselos, Harry Franklin and Jeanne Behrend, and composition with Roland Leich and Vincent Persichetti. Currently, he is the piano department Chair of the Washington Conservatory of Music.
The suite is loosely based on the cello suites of Bach and has five varietal movements in contemporary yet lyrical harmonies. The cello part is edited by Ignacio Alcover.
